DIY lockdown photography Day 3

Tip No.3: Finding our angles

Yesterday, we discussed capturing the story and the details in your images. Today, let’s talk about finding our angles - how one moment can inspire many pictures.

Creating variety in your images can be as easy as counting! Choose a number 3, 4, 5 or more and shoot that number of different angles. No need to move your subjects, let them do their thing, you move - you change the shot.

In the images below, I had my husband sing Round and Round the Garden to our daughter. He had a direction, she was involved in an enjoyable game and I was free to capture the moment, bringing in variety by changing my angle.

  1. From above, behind him

  2. From in front, at her level

  3. From the side, at her level

  4. From above, behind her

  5. From in front, at his level

As you can see, it was only one moment, but 5 different images. Count them as you go and make your movements purposefully. Add additional variety by altering your crop like we discussed yesterday - invite in the whole story and the details.

This method works beautifully in both maternity

and newborn sessions.

Count, move and capture - you’ve got this! Come back tomorrow, when we discuss building connections and emotion in our images.

Stay safe
