Client Success Story: Balancing High Energy Siblings and Newborn Serenity in Family Photography

I deeply value the relationships I build with my clients. Today, I’d like to share a heartwarming story from a recent newborn photography session with a returning family in Reading, Berkshire. Having worked with them before, I was thrilled to capture the newest addition to their family.

A Familiar Family, A New Challenge

Mum and Dad were excited yet understandably apprehensive about the session. They remembered how beautifully I captured their first newborn's early moments, but this time, they were concerned. With two energetic older siblings, they were anxious about how the session would go. Would the boys be cooperative? Would we be able to capture the calmer and more delicate moments of their newborn despite the high energy levels in the room?

I knew how to manage their worries and create a calm environment.

Creating a Comfortable Environment

From the moment they arrived, I made sure to engage with the older boys right away. Giving them choices and a sense of control over the session's timing was crucial. I knew that making the session fun and action-driven would be key to capturing genuine smiles and interactions.

Focusing on Family Interaction

Throughout the session, I placed a special focus on family interaction. I communicated with the boys about what would happen next, ensuring they knew how the session would unfold. This approach helped them feel more comfortable and reduced any potential anxiety. By avoiding actions that could cause stress, I maintained a positive atmosphere.

Making the Session Fun

Incorporating play was essential. The boys loved jumping on the bed, playing hide and seek, and engaging in vehicle play. By integrating these playful activities, I ensured that the session remained enjoyable for everyone involved. Whether it was using the boys love of jumping on the bed to rough and tumble family scare games, these moments kept their energy positive and engaged.

Individual Attention and Precious Moments

Each parent had individual time with the newborn, creating intimate moments that were authentically captured. I also took some solo shots of the newborn, ensuring we documented those precious early days.

The older siblings were eager for my attention, and I used this to structure the session effectively. For instance, I’d say, "First, you take this picture of your sister, and then I’m going to check out your lego car." This approach kept them involved and cooperative.

A Successful Session

The session was a wonderful success. Mum and Dad were thrilled with the photos, especially the candid moments of family interaction and the beautiful shots of their new baby. It was a joy to work with this lovely family again and to be able to work with each of them just as they needed.

Ahh thank you Jo! The boys loved having you around - thank you for making it all so easy for us xx
